In our English 389W class taught by Dr. Heather Julien we looked into the works by various Jewish southern writers. Attending a university such as Emory in the city of Atlanta, where the Jewish culture is very prevalent, it is important to understand the history of the Jewish faith in not only our immediate community but in the region of the South in general. We wanted to gain a better insight into the interplay of the Jewish culture in the South during the height of racial segregation in the United States. There is no better way to get an understanding of the culture during that time than by studying memoirs and novels from some of the most influential Jewish southern writers.
This is exactly what we try to explore in this blog. Enjoy!
